Cambridge Camera Club Annual Exhibition

Cambridge Camera Club's Annual Exhibition opened yesterday and runs until Saturday 2nd November.  On display are 208 prints and 195 projected digital  images.  It is certainly our biggest and possibly our best ever exhibition.

I have 2 prints and 3 PDIs in the exhibition, out of the 7 prints and 12 PDIs I submitted.  Selection was tough and the standard of entries high.  But I was fortunate enough to win 'Colour Pictorial' for one of my prints and also to have it chosen for one of the Exhibition posters.  Since this image has never been on the blog, and as I am a little short on blogfodder, it seemed a reasonable excuse for a humblebrag post.

St Mary's Lighthouse

Last week I spent a few days on the Northumberland coast visiting a friend and doing a little landscape photography.  The weather was somewhat mixed and I didn't achieve as much photographically as I was hoping.  I made a couple of visits to St Mary's Lighthouse, on the outskirts of Whitley Bay, once  for sunset and once for sunrise.  On neither visit was I gifted with a great sky.  On my sunset trip there was nothing but cloud.  For my sunrise visit, a couple of days later, the sky was clear except for a thin band of cloud on the horizon (the curse of seascape photos).  Still, I am quite pleased with the first image below, taken with the aid of a 10 stop filter.

Another Day Out In London

I was in London again on Saturday to visit the Lowry Exhibition at Tate Britain.  An excellent show, but far too crowded for something with timed entry tickets.  The weather was beautiful so naturally we also walked along the South Bank and naturally I had my camera.

Ramsey 40s Weekend

Last Saturday I visited the 1940s event in Ramsey.  I have  been several times before and it is always good value, with plenty of dedicated reenactors willing to pose.  Having said that, this year there seemed to be fewer than the last time I visited, 2 years ago.  It is possible the mixed weather forecast put off some.  Or maybe, the increasingly crowded 40s event calendar, there were at least two other events the same weekend, is diluting the numbers.

Butterflies & Bugs at Brampton

On Sunday afternoon I went out to shoot some long exposure pictures of swaying crops and moving clouds.  However, despite the breeze, the  clouds weren't moving.  So instead I spent a couple of hours in Brampton woods hunting for insects.  Because it was a bit blowy I wasn't hopeful of getting anything.  But with some perseverance and after a couple of hundreds shots I managed a few vaguley in focus.
