Southwold - Long Exposure

Some more from Southwold.  After fish and chips by the pier, we tried some long exposure shots in the failing light.

Southwold & Walberswick

Last weekend there was a CCC outing to Southwold & Walberswick.  It was a sunny day with big fluffy clouds, perfect for big Suffolk skies.  We spent a full day ranging over the two towns, using the row boat ferry to cross the estuary that separates them.

No trip to Southwold would be complete without shots of the brightly coloured beach huts.  Walberswick has beach huts too, which in stark contrast to its neighbour are all painted black.

Paralympic Athletics

Some pictures from inside the Olympic Stadium on the evening of "Thriller Thursday" during the Paralympics, which saw Gold for Hannah Cockcroft (No. 2), David Weir (No. 3 of 4) and Johnny Peacock (just the one, but a bloody good one).  The sound of 80,000 people chanting the name of the 19 year old Cambridgeshire lad, something not done for Bolt, Farah or even Ennis, will stick with me.

Excuse time.  I am not a sports photographer.  I lack the passion, skill and lenses for this type of photography.  And whilst our seats were good, just 19 rows back from track-side, they weren't perfect as they were the opposite side of the stadium to the finishing straight (which was unfortunate on a night with mainly 100m and 2oom finals).  So these shots are very much just a record of a great night.

Olympic Park

I didn't get tickets for any Olympic events, but I was lucky enough to get tickets to what turned out to be one of the best nights of athletics during the Paralympics, 'Thriller Thursday'.  Being as this was going to be our only chance to see the Olympic Park, we arrived at lunchtime and spent the afternoon looking around, including a trip up the Orbit.

The Orbit's upper viewing platform contains two huge distorting concave mirrors.  These gave vastly different views, one moment distorted, the next clear view as you moved around in front of them, and, if you stood just in the right spot, the London skyline turned upside down.

 More to come.

Another stroll along the South Bank

Last Saturday I had tickets to see a superb production of  Richard III at the Globe Theatre. Since I had time to spare and I had my Olympus Pen with me, it was another opportunity for some street pictures.  The first two pictures are from a roof top garden on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

One of the great things about the South Bank is that it is easy to get up high and take 'bird's eye' shots of the activity below.

Finally, another of the art installations that have been made on the South Bank as part of the 2012 festival.  A 'cave' with stalactites and stalagmites made of plastic milk bottles.
