Chesil Beach and Portland

The visitor's centre at Chesil beach provided several of the Burnet moth images in an earlier post.  I was also hoping to get pictures of plants amongst the shingle.  Sadly, one small patch of sea bindweed was the best on offer.  The sky was interesting though and the shingle did offer some wide vistas.  After lunch it was off to Portland Bill for an explore.

Dorset Insects and Flowers

A small selection of flowers and insects taken during my macro photography adventures in Dorset.  I was pleased to bag my first Bee Orchid, as well as a couple of white varietals of either Common or Marsh Orchids (not too sure which).  The Scarlet Tiger Moth was one of many resting on comfrey in the garden of a visitor centre.

Burnet Moths

My first couple of days in Dorset were spent in the company of other CCC members, with the main purpose of our outings being macro photography.  We found a number of insect species, although less butterflies than expected.  There were, however, plenty of Burnet Moths (both the 5 and 6 spot varieties) at pretty much every location we visited.  We found a number of mating pairs, as well as caterpillars and a newly spun cocoon, with the caterpillar still just visible.

Dorset by Hipstamatic

I just got back from a week in the west country.  I spent the first couple of days with other CCC members at Higher Kingcombe Lodge, followed by 3 days in Swanage, finishing up the week seeing a friend in Devon.  Lots of images taken with my Canon, but not yet processed. However, I can show some images taken with my iPhone.

After a couple of talks on mobile phone photography at the club, I recently started using the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone. This mimics various analogue films and lenses.  Changing the 'lens' and 'film' gives a totally different look to the final image.  It is a camera app rather than a post production app, since the lens and film must be selected before image capture and the effects are applied as the image is taken.  There are dozens of films and lenses that can be purchased in addition to the basic app. This means it's not a cheap app if you start getting into it.

Below are a selection of images I have taken with Hipstamatic during my travels through Dorset.

Strawberry Fair 2018

I spent beautiful sunny afternoon at Strawberry Fair last Saturday.  The great weather meant it was well attended, and I left in the early evening as, by then, it was getting too busy to get clear shots.  But, by then, I'd seen a lot of bands and filled a memory card with images of the colour and chaos.
