Rannoch Moor

I spent Christmas at the Kingshouse on the edge of Glencoe.  For the first couple of days, the weather was quite dull and rainy.  It was slightly better on Rannoch Moor than in Glencoe, so that is where I spent my time.

Grosvenor Square Illuminated Flowers

Grosvenor Square in London is currently home to an installation of 27,000 illuminated white roses. The 'Ever After Garden' is intended as somewhere for Londoners to remember lost friends and family.  People can pay to dedicate a rose to a loved one, with the donations going to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Mill Road Winter Fair

I am catching up on some blog posts.  The first Saturday of the month saw Mill Road host it's annual winter fair.  It is always an interesting event to attend, lots of food and music.  But it can be a tricky thing to photograph, big crowds and usually terrible light.  I took a lot of shots, threw most of them away, here is a selection of what was left.

Botanic Gardens - Later That Autumn

I took another trip to the Botanic Gardens for Autumn colour.  This time with other CCC members.  Like last time, I was in search of subjects for the Pep Ventosa technique.  I was able to find a couple of suitable candidates.  Plus a few viewpoints for straight shots.

Wandlebury Country Park

I recently joined other CC members at Wandlebury Country Park for a fungi hunt.  At first we weren't finding much.  Luckily Ann has a very keen eye and was able to find a number of interesting little specimens.

In Search of Autumn at the Botanic Gardens

On a sunny Saturday, I visited the Botanic Gardens in Cambridge, to see what Autumn colour I could find.  There wasn't much.  A few tress had changed, mainly the acers, but even they weren't quite at their best.  Most of the big trees were still very green.  I found one decent specimen that had just enough room around it to try a Pep Ventosa style image.  I also found a clump of sulphur tuft fungi on a fallen log, plus the odd interesting leaf.

American Cemetery In Infrared

I haven't used my IR camera much this summer.  One thing I enjoy about IR images is the whitening of natural greens.  But the long dry summer turned many of the greens to brown, so IR images seemed pointless.  But the early autumn rains have perked things up a little.  A while ago someone suggested to me that the American cemetery would be a good IR subject, so I decided to give it a go.  The grass was still a little patchy, but the trees gave me the effect I was looking for.

Battersea

I took a stroll around Battersea for the first time since before the pandemic.  There has been a lot of building work in that time, with most of the new blocks complete or near complete.  It is now a very busy area.  Not least with security guards. This whole area is another of London's many private public spaces.  It was inevitable that I would be hassled for daring to take photos with a 'professional camera'.  It was the early evening window reflection shots that finally set one off.  I ignored the guy long enough to get the shot I wanted, then went to dinner.
