Stamford Mid Lent Fair

Earlier in the week I spent an evening at Stamford Mid Lent Fair (thanks Jo for organising).  This is quite the biggest travelling fair I have seen and seemed to range over most of the town.  I particularly like fairs for the opportunities they give for light trail pictures.  However, since we went on opening night, business was fairly light and many of the rides spent more time drumming up punters than actually running.  So, I intermixed the light trail shots with a few 'on the fly' candid shots, particularly of the fast food stalls.  All of these shots were taken with my Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens, which is very useful for both purposes.

Ribblehead

These pictures of a trip to Ribblehead in the Yorkshire Dales have sat on the hard-drive for a few weeks, whilst I have been caught up with other things.  The light on this day wasn't the best.  This and the rather bleak landscape favoured a mono treatment of the images.

Snowdrops at Chippenham Park

Sunday afternoon, I took advantage of of the best of the weekend's weather to spend a couple of hours at Chippenham Park taking pictures of the snowdrops.

More From Welney

I can't show images from a trip to Welney without some birds pictures.  So here you go, starting with a picture I call 'Cheeky Sod'.

A wide-angle shot of one of the regular feedings, taken from the main hide.  As I said in the last post, there wasn't much free water.

Only a few Whooper swans flew in that evening, but the extent of the ice meant that many of those which did had rather undignified landings.

 Finally we were treated to a lovely sunset.

 

Welney Winter Wonderland

Saturday, saw a small group of camera club members (well three of us to be precise, plus one more in the afternoon) met up at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust centre at Welney on a very cold (-12C apparently) and foggy morning.  Although the fog did eventually lift, it didn't get above freezing all day.  A deep hoar frost covered all of the plants giving plenty of macro shot opportunities.  Most of the water was frozen, except for a small patch in front of the main hides that was kept clean by the constant motion of the birds.  There was also a good covering of snow remaining from earlier in the week.  It made for an excellent, albeit rather chilly, day of photography.

A Snowy St Neots

Some Pictures of last Sunday's snow.  All taken in the Riverside park in St Neots.
