Tate Britain

On Saturday I spent a few hours at Tate Britain.  The art collection ranges from the sublime to the Tracy Emin.  But for a photographer the building is as much of a draw, offering many superb spaces.  I particularly enjoyed the shapes and lines of the lower floor.

In the walled garden at Wimpole

Summer may be over, but the walled garden at Wimpole Hall still has many of flowers in full bloom.

 

A walk along the Regents Canal

These images are from a couple of weeks ago.  I took a walk along the Regent's canal, starting at King's Cross, passing through Camden before finishing at Regent's Park.  I had intended to head all the way to Little Venice, but time got the better of me (too long a lunch stop in Camden). 

 

 

Houghton Mill

I recently made a visit to Houghton Mill.  It was a sunny afternoon.  The contrast between the strong light and shade made the place very atmospheric, but was challenge to photograph.  All shots were taken with the new version nifty-fifty, hand-held and mostly at f3.5 or wider.

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea

Whilst visiting my friend in Blyth, we spent an afternoon at nearby Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.  The beach at Newbiggin, which had suffered decades of erosion, underwent a massive redevelopment in 2007. That year, more than 500,000 tonnes of sand were brought up the coast from Skegness and a new breakwater built.  The breakwater includes a sculpture, by artist Sean Henry, called  Couple.  A small version of the two figures (the 'Land Couple') can be seen on the promenade.

 

A few from Newcastle & Gateshead

Last weekend I visited a friend of mine who lives in Blyth, Northumbria.  On one of the days we took a tip into Newcastle for a stroll around, crossing the Millennium bridge to Gateshead and back, before ending up in one of the city's parks.
