Gamlingay Wood

On Saturday morning I visited Gamlingay Wood.  There were some much denser patches of bluebells there than at Waresley.  When I arrived the sun was still low enough to cast strong shadows of the trees. I really liked the lead lines this gave. 

After the sun climbed a little higher I tried a few more creative shots.  Firstly some intention camera movement.  I didn't want to include too much movement, as this just turns the trees and flowers into a bar-code.  Instead, I wanted just enough blur to give the scene an impressionistic feel.  Finally, I tried some in-camera double exposures.  These kind of shots can be 'pot-luck', and for this scene I didn't think they were that successful.  However, I did quite like the ghostly trees in the final image.

 

 

Waresley Wood

On Good Friday, I joined other CCC members at Warlesy Wood to photograph the spring flowers.  The bluebells aren't yet quite at their best, but already the rest of the woodland understory is growing up around them.  As usual at Waresley, I choose to concentrate on the details.

 

Gulls at Paxton Pits

Last Sunday morning I visited Paxton Pits for the first time in months.  It was a fairly bright, but very cold.  The water in the lakes was the lowest I can remember seeing it in years.  I wanted to practice capturing birds in flight.  Luckily there were plenty of black-headed gulls skimming the water.

Scotland - one day

The best day of my recent trip to Scotland was the Tuesday.  The day started pretty grey, but by the afternoon the sky and the light were beautiful.  We did a lot of miles and shot at several locations.  All of the following images were taken on that one day.

Scotland - A Mixed Bag

I recently had a week in Scotland, staying in Ballachulish, near Glencoe.  The weather was decidedly mixed.  With a lot of perseverance, particularly with regard to wiping rain drops off lenses and filters, we managed to get some shots in the bag.  Nothing truly great, just pleasant.

Coal Drops Yard

In a couple of weeks time, there is a CCC outing to Regents canal and Coal Drops Yard.  I'm working that weekend, so given the unseasonable sunshine, I decided to visit last Saturday. 

The area behind King's Cross has been undergoing regeneration over the last few years.  But, it wasn't really that long ago, that this was a place you would not dare venture (unless, of course, you wanted a rave, a wrap of smack or a blowjob from a rather gaunt individual).  It now boasts a Waitrose, with an in store wine bar, and a chocolate shop by Alain Ducasse.  How times change.
