Club Night Photography Outing

Last weekend, I joined other CCC members for the annual club night photography shoot in Cambridge.  We started on Kings Parade, before heading, via the Mill Pond, to the University's Sidgwick site.

Ignite at Polesden Lacey

I have wanted to photograph one of the National Trust winter light events for a few years.  But they were always fully booked by the time I tried to get tickets.  This year there are events at more locations and a friend was able to get us tickets to 'Ignite' at Polesden Lacey, near Leatherhead in Surrey. 

Old Tractor at Wimpole

The other Sunday, I had nothing to do and fancied a piece of cake, so, for the first time in about 2 years, I visited Wimpole Hall.  Cake was the main purpose of the visit, but I took a camera hoping to find something of interest.  I found something at the farm, in the shape of an old Fordson Major tractor.  The paintwork was splattered with rust and lichen and I spent a pleasant half hour or so taking a series of hand-held close-ups.  I would have liked more depth of field on some of the shots, but didn't have the light.  I will have to take my tripod, the next time I fancy some cake.

Little Fungi In Waresley Wood

Not long after shooting the ivy in Cambridge, I spent an afternoon in Waresley Wood in search of fungi.  There had been quite a bit of rain in the proceeding weeks, so I thought there would be lots.  I was wrong.  I found a few little black things (Dead Man's Fingers) and a several little white things (Fairy Inkcap) and nothing else.

 Autumn seems to off to a slow start.  Thank heavens for the Boston Ivy which is showing its autumn glory.

Hampton Court Interiors

Catch-up processing of some images I took a while ago, at the Hampton Court Food Festival. The ticket price also included access to the palace.  I have previously visited the grounds a few times, but this was my first time inside.  All images are hand-held 3 shot HDRs.

St Neots Living History Festival

Last Saturday the was a living history fair in St Neots, organised by St Neots Museum.  There were a dozen or so stalls with reenactors covering periods from the Vikings to the Edwardians.  Reenactors are always great value for a photographer.  They are very willing to pose, to show off the costumes that they have put so much time and money into.  The only difficulty is finding a sympathetic background. Not too hard at an historic dockyard or steam railway, but much trickier in the middle of a busy St Neots Market Square. So I gave up trying for clean shots of whole people and instead concentrated on hands and costume details.
