A few images from a rather disappointing day at Lackford Lakes. No Kingfishers to be seen. I had a few glimpses of a Hobby, too distant to even consider a photo. Luckily I was able to find lots of damselflies, the occasional dragonfly, a rather confiding young rabbit and a tree-rat.

Strawberry Fair - The Crowd
Strawberry Fair seemed to get a lot busier a lot quicker this year than in previous years. Generally, it starts fairly quietly and really begins to fill up after about 4pm. This year it was quite busy by 2pm. This made picking individuals out of the crowd more of a challenge. On the plus side, there was a few more characters to chose from.

Strawberry Fair - Performers
At the start of the month, when is was sunny and hot, I spent over 6 hours at Strawberry Fair photographing the acts and the audience. I shot over a thousand frames and have spent the last 2 weeks whittling them down to two blog posts. This first one concentrates on the performers..

Sharpenhoe Clappers
It was a rather breezy morning when I visited Sharpenhoe Clappers. I managed to find a few insects that held still long enough for a shot. The changing light and breezy on the growing crops also gave some interesting shots of the surrounding fields.

Green Winged Orchids
Upwood Meadows is a small nature reserve, not far from Lady's wood near Ramsey. One of the fields is agriculturally unimproved, and shows evidence of medieval ridge and furrows. The meadows are particularly good for green winged orchids. These were looking superb when I visited on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Brick Lane
Any trip to Columbia Road is immediately followed by a visit to Brick Lane. Despite the fact that the Sunday market at Brick Lane is even busier and more chaotic than Columbia Road, I find it a more rewarding location. The street art offers lots of interesting, and ever-changing, backdrops and there are a number of quieter side-streets that allow for simpler shots.
