Snow Drops in St Neots

There is a small patch of snowdrops in the churchyard of Eaton Socon church.  Not huge, but enough for a few close-up shots.  All shots were hand held.  A couple were focus-stacked, the rest were single shots at a wide aperture.

Fields of Snow

Last Sunday, we finally got some snow.  It didn't start snowing until 12.00pm, but by 1.00pm there was a good covering.  So, I pulled on the winter hill gear, grabbed the Olympus and headed out over the fields. I only had a few hours of daylight left.  Luckily, a year of walking these fields meant that I knew exactly where I wanted to go and how to get there with the paths no longer visible.  It kept snowing lightly all afternoon and keeping the lens clean of snow was a constant problem.  I had to delete more than half the images I took because of snow spots.  However, I did get some shots I am very pleased with.

 

Frozen Flowers

There has been a camera club project for January on the theme of 'frozen'.  One suggestion was taking photos of frozen flowers.  I gave this a go during Lockdown 1, but didn't post the images back then as I wasn't that happy with them.  But, for the sake of club spirit, and because the blog has been a little sparse lately, here are some of the better ones.  I do plan give this another go sometime soon.  Hopefully next time I can get less bubbles in the ice.

Creative Flooding

The Riverside Park was flooded again last weekend.  The third or fourth time this winter.  Like lock-downs or corporate re-brandings, I soon loose count at the the first couple.  Lacking the fog of the last one, I decided to try and be a little creative, with in-camera double exposure and and intentional camera movement.

Apparently, I now only take photos in the fog.  

The riverside park in St Neots is a flood plain and spends, at least, a few days underwater in an average year.  But the recent floods have been the worst I can remember since the Easter of '98.  Even so, I have photographed the park in flood before.  I have also photographed the park in fog.  But never before both at once.  The combination turned a very familiar place into something ethereal.

 

More Foggy Fields

Three more images of the fields local to me, taken earlier on the same day as the Cambridge shots.  There is one specific tree of which I was hoping to get a misty/foggy shot, from a specific viewpoint.  On the previous trip over the fields, the mist had cleared by the time I reached it.  This time the fog just got thicker and I couldn't even see the damn tree.  Oh well, at least it's local, so I can keep trying for that Goldilocks level of fog.

Cambridge On A Foggy Evening

 A recent extended foggy spell coincided with a weekend, which meant I could head to Cambridge for some night pictures.  For years I have wanted a moody monochrome foggy picture of the tree-lined path across Jesus Green.  This was my chance.  But since the fog didn't seem to be going anywhere, I tried a few other locations on my way to the green.  Once there, I spent about an hour, taking multiple shots, waiting for just the right person to walk by and getting very cold.  

Eventually, I got a shot approaching what I wanted.  But, it's not my favourite of the night.  That was taken in just a couple of minutes at my first stop of the evening, outside Fitzbillies.  The bus came around the corner at just the perfect time and I love the way the steam from the vent is back-lit.
